15th Century character Millers cottage between Jacobstowe and Exbourne on the river Okement.
Cottage has two ensuite bedrooms (which can be twins or kingsize), sitting room with double sofa bed, large smart T.V. separate dining room, both having wood burners. There is also a down stairs bathroom with bath and shower over. The kitchen contains cooker, fridge and freezer, washing machine and dish washer and has plenty of storage for food.
The cottage can sleep 4/6 people and there is room for one large dog of two medium.
There is a large gravel drive with room for two or three cars and there is a large grass area surrounded by flower boarders, there is also a patio area with table, chairs, sun loungers, bbq and firepit.
The garden looks out onto fields and trees along the river. We have a large selection of wild birds that visit the garden to the numerous feeders we have around the cottage, most of our commoner birds but also Siskins, Willow Tits, Fire crests.
Kingfishers, Dippers, Goosander and heron can be seen on the river. The track or old road that runs past the cottage goes down to the river, on one side there is our orchard where our chickens and ducks live with walkways down to the water and a picnic table that guests can use.
Further along the track over the old pack horse bridge to the left is a public footpath through three fields following the river then through woods and small Devon hamlets, you can pick up the Tarka trail here, you can also access the water in places for doggie friends to have a swim, or even brave humans.
The cottage is ideally situated to explore not only Dartmoor and west Devon but also Bude, North and South Devon, which are between 40 and 60 minutes away. Okehampton is 4 miles away as is Dartmoor, with supermarkets, shops and of course beautiful walks in Simmons park and on Dartmoor. There are also several national trust properties nearby, Finch Foundry, Castle Drogo, Lydford Gorge also many beautiful gardens to visit, Stone Lane, Rosemoor, The Garden Room, Marwood Hill, Clovelly Court.
There are also many dog friendly pubs locally. We are lucky to see lots of wildlife as well as numerous wild birds, we often see deer, foxes and on occasions an otter. The river contains Trout, Salmon and Eel, we have fishing rights over about half a mile but of course you do also need to only fish in season and have the appropriate fishing licence.
The Old Mill Cottage is open all year around offering a great place to explore Devon and Cornwall or a place just to cosy up by the fire with a book after taking a long walk along the river.
