Description

Beautiful little shepherds hut overlooking the river Okement in a rural position between Jacobstowe and Exbourne.

Shepherds hut is fully fitted with a raised double bed (with storage under)  over looking the river, fitted kitchenette with micro oven and double hob, fridge, storage cupboards, sink with plenty of hot water, fully fitted shower room with electric shower, sink with hot water and conventional flush loo, fluffy towels also provided on the heated towel rail.  There is also an electric heater inside the hut and a fire pit (logs provided) and bbq outside together with table chairs, sun lounger and sun umbrella.

There is a bird table and bird window feeder just outside the hut and we do get a very large selection of wild birds visiting, all the usual wild birds, plus siskins, woodpeckers, nuthatch, willow tits as well as kingfishers, heron, gooseanders, dippers and grey wagtails on the river.  We also often see foxes and deer and occasionally an otter (mainly on our wild life cameras as they are so shy).

The Shepherds hut sleeps two and we do accept on medium or two tiny dogs.  There is an enclosed small wildlife garden and beautiful walks on the far side of the river through fields, woods and Devon hamlets, the Tarka trail can be joined here.

The Shepherds hut is accessed by the old road, now a public footpath off the A3072, on the other side of the track we have an orchard where our ducks and hens live which our guests are welcome to use, there is also access to the river here down walkways with hand rails, please take care though and be aware that this is at your own risk.

The Old mill Shepherds hut is 4 miles from Okehampton where you will find all the shops you need and many beautiful walks on the Granite way, Simmons park,  Fartherfood woods  and Abbeyford woods and of course Dartmoor.  Jacobstowe is great for exploring all of Devon and north Cornwall.  Bude being about 35minutes away and north and south Devon about 60 minutes.

There are many great pubs in the area, many are dog friendly and most serve excellent food all year round.  The shepherds hut provides parking, due to the rural nature we would advise that wellies are a useful item to bring with you.

If you are a wildlife lover and interested in nature this definitely is the place for you.
