Red Lion Yard is a pretty pedestrian shopping precinct right in the heart of the town.
It is so called because it was once the stable yard of the Red Lion Hotel which was a temperance hotel run by the Ball Family. The Red Lion was a temperance hotel in 1911 and still not selling alcohol in the 1930’s.
Nowadays it’s a lovely Retail Park with lots of independent shops, accessed from entrances on all sides including opposite Waitrose and Co-op supermarkets, and from Fore Street which is the main road running through town.
